Gencon 2004

So sit back children, and hear a tale, of a walrus who went west, and did not fail. He traveled to indy, and roamed with the nerds, and experienced things that were beyond words...
5 cent drinks no more...
I started out here, in Baltimore, where the walls were decorated with very old paintings and ads. Here we see ads for 5 cent Slides and Tom and Jerrys, from about 1890. I believe these are real, not replicas, judging by the wear and tear and frames.
You think this is the PA Turnpike?
Here we are, tired as hell, somewhere in a rest stop in Ohio. It must have been 3am or so. We made a wrong turn somewhere, and almost ended up in Cleveland, about 250 miles out of the way. We had to turn back and find I70 all over again. Next time, we trust Mapquest... not Trip Tik. From left to right are Heather, Kory, Jim, Liz, and Jason.
Whinnn-nnn-nnny!
Outside of a Denny's, near the Ohio border on Wednesday morning, we tied up our horses and... no, okay, the Mennonites were selling baskets. I am such a city boy, until now, I have never actually seen a Mennonite or Amish person. I am going to have to fix that.
Where does this go?
Here we are, setting up on Thursday. Matt, Chris, and Heather discuss what goes where. Heather is the charge of the table; all table wheelings and dealings must go through her. She is really good at her job and kept everything up all weekend.
In the year twooo thouuusand...
We were table 2010, in row 2000. There were over 25 rows in the vendor's hall alone. Note the tee-shirt below. That's the top of the tee-shirt monolith that towered over us.
Blah blah blah... ka-CHING! $$$
Here is Kory, discussing products. Behind him is a t-shirt vendor who had a display I swear was over 2 storeys high. They dwarfed us in their tee-shirt profoundery, like a monolith of cotton blocking out the sun and acting as a beacon for miles around... "Get your Screech retro shirts! Super Mario Twooooo! All sizes up to XXL...!"
Main hall...all..all..ll.ll.ll...
This is just one of the several main halls of the convention center. They were huge.
RPGA... hey hey hey...
I thought this was the gaming room. I thought, "this seems small," but later I found out that this was just the RPGA room. Maybe 10% of the actual gaiming, maybe less.
Hyper hyper...
Brought to you by... Red Bull! Not exactly the Weinermobile, but I think it's better.
I wish they all could be... quiet...
This was the view from our hotel room. The stadium was full every night. One night, the Beach Boys played. Ugh, maybe it was the acoustics outside the stadium, but they were awful...
My big foil ball! Huh huh!
They built this huge dragon out of foil and clay...
Yee-haw! Ride'em dragonrider!
... and when it was done, for a fee, you could ride it. Eh. I've seen weirder.
