02/24/2003 Entry: "To do something truly evil..." I had to add this entry to post a quote that truly made me gasp with glee. "Religon is an insult to human dignity. With or without it, you'd have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, it takes religon." --Dr. Steven Weinberg, Nobel Laureate April 1999 I hope it's a real quote (you know the Internet), but it's so true. By the way, I have this personal opinion that everyone should see Kevin Smith's film, "Dogma," when they have the next free moment. It really puts a hard line between "ideas" vs. "beliefs." Here's a quote from Rufus from that film I almost cried when I heard: "I think it's better to have ideas. You can change an idea. Changing a belief is trickier. Life should malleable and progressive; working from idea to idea permits that. Beliefs anchor you to certain points and limit growth; new ideas can't generate. Life becomes stagnant [...] A belief's a dangerous thing, Bethany. People die for it. People kill for it." I have no real ulterior reason to post this, just reading that first quote triggered this post.
